A New Eposide In Our Live Begins

It is time to begin a new adventure in our lives. We have began a new blog titled Urban Living in Downtown Fort Worth. Our Rv lifestyle is over and that blog needs to end. With the passing of my Dad, that is a good place to stop and began anew.

So bookmark the new blog and delete the old blog and lets move on together. I will bring forward some of the links and leave some of them behind. Though Shirley has been living here since last year it is still new for me this year.

The RV is for sale with a new lower price. Please visit the Motorhome Specialists website for our Pace Arrow Vision motorhome.

So, lets begin the new adventure and go to the new blog today. This blog will no longer be updated.

Thank you for stopping by and reading our RV lifestyle.

We Buried Our Dad Today

A service was held in Hobbs, NM for those that knew him and called him friend on Saturday, March 29, 2008. He was then transported to Electra, TX for burial in the family plot on March 31, 2008. In attendance were his two sons, their family, Grand children, Great Grand children and his two nephews with their families.Daddy had outlived all of his friends and co-workers of years gone by. With his death is the passing of a generation as said by his nephew Gary of Houston, TX. My brother Jim, myself, Gary and his brother Larry are now the next generation.

My father had a long and good life, was married to a good wife and mother, and retired in his early 50's to enjoy a very long leisure life. He and mom traveled and went thru three RV's.

He had always said that he would live to be 120. Now he can surpass that by living forever.

From all of his family we bid him a "Good By".

Kitty and I Have Arrived At Our Final Destination

It was only a 36 foot motor home and it took me 2 whole days to unload. I put two loads in storage, and made 6 trips to the apartment. Now I have a SUV so it was about as full as boxes would allow. I still have the final storage load in it and will deliver that soon. I got 3 fishing rods/reels, 2 tackle boxes, and misc little loose stuff. The apartment is packed full. There is only a single walk in closet and a entry coat closet. The bowling balls are on the bedroom floor and the rest that we have no place for is in boxes. So far just 3 boxes. There is a small spot in the bathroom that might do for them.

I got to go buy a printer stand this weekend. No, nothing for the printer and paper. And there is not a desk for the laptops yet. Will look for a small writing type of desk and chair. Put up a deposit for kitty today, ouch.

The rv is in the shop getting its 2 repairs, see past postings. I will pick it up Monday and put it up for sale. I guess you better put us down as no longer traveling and not an rv'r.

EDIT: the rv repair came to $1387.90. The rv is now at Motorhome Specialists for consignment sale. Wish us luck.

It was a good ride and we have slide into home. Do it if you can.

I'm At Holiday Park, Benbrook Lake

I left the rv park in Schertz about 8:30 am and made it to here at 1:30 pm with a gas stop. I actually stopped 2 times for gas, the 1st at 3.05 per gallon and then later at 2.85 per gallon. I ended up putting in $118 gas in the rv.

Very nice trip, good weather, no problems. I will get the rv cleaned out and in to service to get the two items repaired prior to its sale. I suspect it will be several days before its worked on and hopefully not too expensive. But it is what it is!

I'm tired and will post the mileage, etc tomorrow. OH YES, the COE Holiday Park has a Hughesnet dish on the attendant gate. Maybe there is wifi there. Will let you know tomorrow.

Mileage: 533 from LLano Grande, 246 from my stop at Schertz, TX. No wifi it appears.

On To Home We Go

I should pull out about 8am and head on north. I will stop for gas some where, probably north of Austin and have the 1/2 tank needed to put it up for sale. First stop is the lake and depending on the time I'll take a load to storage and then a load of the food to the house. Tuesday is hopefully the rest of the contents with a 2nd load to storage and the remaining to the house. Tom Cat has a vet appointment for shots and clipping. then he gets to go to the house.

Got to get breakfast and then head out. Ya'll drive safe out there.

And He's Off

I left about 9am, after saying good bye and paying my electric bill, headed to Harlingin and US77 north. With all the weather reports it turned out it all went east and north. No bad weather to speak of. I stopped at the rest stop around Waverly and talked to my daughter and got the latest report before I went the final 50 miles to SA.

I arrived at the Stone Creek RV park about 3pm and got a short pull thru. I say short as I just barely fit with the car attached. I guess I'm 50 feet long and thats the length of the pull thru. I'm also spoiled to concrete and gravel and not this wet dirt. Makes for a messy carpet. YUCK!

I will be here till Monday morning and then head it home. More later.

Stone Creek RV park, exit 177 on I35 go south 1/4 mile the the sign
$48.46 with TACO or Escapees discount for two nights
GPS: 29*37.111', 98*15.801'
Mileage: 282 from my last stop
wifi and 20 channel cable

Its Friday And What To Do

I'm thinking of going tomorrow but..... The weather here will be good but strong south winds, 20-25 range here in Mercedes. Where I'm going, just north of San Antonio, will have 70% chance of rain. I can stop at the rest area south of San Antonio and wait out the rain and spend the night, a guarded rest area. Or if the rain is a hit and miss make it into the rv park in Schertz. Its about 263 miles or 5 hours drive. I want to do a weekend trip to see my daughter and grandkids. Then leave on Monday morning for the 268 miles to the COE at Benbrook Lake.

OR put the trip off a week and try again that weekend. I have till the 1st of March till I must leave. I'm paid till then. The passing fronts cause us to have strong winds here. Yesterday the winds were 25-30 with 40 gusts from the south. All due to the low sitting in West Texas. That is still better than the cold coming to the DFW area. I could get in more golf here by staying but I have to pay. My membership was up on the 12th. It costs $18 for 9 and $22 for 18. A little cheaper than home courses. I'm back to 2x a week golf now vs the 4-6 days I was.

I guess we will all know when I make my next post. That will be tomorrow at the wifi thats available at the rest stop or at daughters, Schertz, or from here in Mercedes. Stay tuned and lets see what the weather forecast is tomorrow and make a final decision.

Mileage I got from the map is:
90 to Rivera
46 to Robstown, Wal-Mart stop if necessary
57 to the rest stop on I37
88 to Schertz

Each of these is a stop if its raining.

RV odometer reading: 82028. 545 miles form the rv park in Weatherford to the rv park in Mercedes with a gas stop. 531 to the COE park at Benbrook Lake.

Got A Repair To Do When I Get Back

The traveling rv service man came by yesterday afternoon and looked at my light problem and the ice maker. He spent about an hour looking for the source of the loss of power to two switches and an overhead fixture. All to no avail. Somewhere in the wiring is a disconnected wire. All of the connections at the fuse panel work. Without a wiring diagram there is little hope. A trip to a fleetwood dealer.

The ice maker stopped making ice after the last defrost I did. While the serviceman was here he looked at that and we must have a new water line to the ice maker. Not a easy fix. The frige must be pulled out to attach a new line. A trip also to a fleetwood dealer.

I get the feeling that this will be an expensive trip. Then the rv is "for sale". All known repairs will have been done.

Its been gorgeous here since our last cold spell. The next week is forecast for more of the same.

And Janis I will be heading home in three weeks at the latest. My rent is paid till th 1st of March so I must go then. I plan on a stop in San Antonio to see my daughter and grandkids. Its a 5 hour drive to their place and another 5 hour drive and to Fort Worth, actually to the COE at Benbrook Lake before going to the repair shop.

Its 21 days or less and counting.

More Wind and Passing Fronts

Since my last post, we have had two fronts pass through. This one is bring winds of the 25-30 range with forecast of 40+ gusts today. I played 9 holes yesterday in 15-20 with 30 gusts but not today. Just to much wind.

I will have the traveling RV service man by Friday to look at the lights and get them fixed. His rate is half the going rv service center rate. He is RVIA certified which means he has been to the school back east for repairman. Works for me. Get the rv repaired here and then move to home and get it listed "FOR SALE". We have a 2000 Pace Arrow Vision with extras and some new parts. Its my home so I keep it up. We will be asking $50k but can negotiate. Email me if interested.

Not much else to say, just the same ole same old. Golf, stay warm and our of the winds, and more golf. I am going to play the Tierra Santa golf course here. It meanders thru the homes and look like a nice course. Let you know more later.

A Two Day Relief From The Cold

Today and tomorrow are in the low 80's with 60's for the night temps. With the passing fronts it is windy today, 20-25 with 35+ gusts. The high gust was 38 today. I did play in this and it was short drives into the wind and long drives with the wind. The normal drive was 190 into the wind and PW went maybe 60 yards. I hit a good 9 iron and got 80 yards with 110 needed to reach the pin. Fun day.

I talk with Shirley ever night and she heard it will be very windy there tomorrow. One of her co-workers stated its to be 50-55 mph winds tomorrow. if so, don't travel in this unless your looking for a new rig. Look at our weather link for the fronts and winds in your area.

I have 4 weeks this Saturday and then its moving day. I will head back to the apartment and get the rv listed "for sale". Its been a fun ride but if my partner can't travel, I will not either as its no fun by yourself. I'm not for the being alone part.

Its Winter in The Valley

All good things must come to and end, sometime. It certainly has here in Mercedes and surrounding area. We had a cool front arrive last week and we now have the Artic front with its cold weather and rain. The last warm day was Tuesday and the next is forecast for this Sunday. In the mean time its in the late 40's and the wind is out of the north. Burrrrrrr.

My DW was here last weekend and got to stay for three days with the Monday holiday. She brought some cooler and windy weather this time like the last. The neighbors made the observation of her and the weather. Since this is her last trip maybe the "winds" will change.

Not much else to say except we are hibernating and waiting on better weather. The light problem is still with me with no solution in sight. The light fixtures were taken down and the wires wiggled with no change. The lights in question are on two circuits. All the other lights work as they should.

I did buy a new gps for golfing. I got a iGolf Caddie ll. This one will allow me to make changes to existing courses. I had bought a SkyCaddie 2 and returned it as it would not allow for changed to existing courses. I have downloaded some courses into the caddie and have downloaded into the laptop more courses that I play when I get back home. And we will be headed back 5 weeks this coming weekend.

Stay warm and be safe where ever you are.

Just An Update

Yes I'm still here. Jan asked and I replied to her email. As i was telling Shirley how do you say "doing the same old thing". Golf, then weather, golf, golf, then weather, golf, weather, Shirley is here, waiting on warm weather to do more golf. I have got to play all the golf I want this year. Cant beat that.

This is the weekend that I have DW here. She came in on the plane Friday evening and will go back Monday afternoon. Then its my turn to go that way. Plans are a stop on the way to see daughter and grandkids before going on to my new "home". We are wanting to put new carpet in the rv. And there is a new problem, the lights over the bathroom sink are verrrrry slow coming on. The lights in the china cabinet and by the same don't come on at all. I'll check the fuse for them but how do you explain the slow to come on lights? They are spots and bulbs. Could it be the inverter is starting to fail?

I have been waiting on better weather since Monday. Suppose to be here this Monday and into next week. Then its back into the 70's and 80's and warm again. Yea!!!

Wherever you are have a good time and stay warm.
