A New Day

We have new arrivals this morning. The first is looking at parking across from us. He drove on by as to park. The other is talking to the park host, employee (she), and has not started yet. She has now gotten in the 5th and has driven by us and is backing the 5th into a spot.

Its a crisp 45 this am. I only bring this up as its a mix in Weatherford at 30*. Not a good day in central and north central Texas.

Our readers have gone from 64 last year to 42 when we were in the RGV to a climbing high of 48. I hope our readers go on up as we continue to travel. And as it gets warmer to the north of us, we will head that way with a stop at Monument Valley.

The travel trailer is parked directly across from us. The 5th is to our right and across the drive. the 5th probably has electricity but the tt does not. Our forecast is mid 60's thru Monday. Once we get to Holbrook, the temps are in the mid 70's. The elevation change is about 1000 feet lower.

We did go for a drive this morning. We drove south to the Hon Da Casino and their rv park. Yep, its $24.00 aday and its nearlly full. In fact the monthly is full. Just wanted to be sure about the rate. We came back toward our park and made two stops. One was to get a haircut, $13.00, and Radio Shack to get a screw for our suv light. I lost the screw for the male hookup on the rv. Its a different size screw than the connection wire, female. I'll get a pic of the connection.

The young lady did a good job on the haircut. and Radio Shack did not have the screw. We came on back for lunch. Its really pretty here. The elev must go from 6000 to 7000 feet. Its all in the mountains with the pines. And green with a low fire danger. We also have only two local stations, PBS and Fox. Hence no local golf. The tripod DTV dish is up for tv.

Show Low, AZ

Here is a map of our location. This does not show the map location using our GPS.

For our GPS location map, go to here. Its the Google map with the numbers shown and the arrow pen pointing our piece of dirt. In this case we do have some lava upcropping under us. Hope it stays cold.

Give us some feed back on the two maps and tell us which you like.

More on the drive. It was 6 miles of 6% at 30 mph with some 25 mph hairpen curves and several loops as we went down. The road was blasted out of the near shear walls. We have good brakes and I'd recommend that you have a brake check at your service dealer before going into the mountains.

We use the Ford house for our "truck" portion of this rv. The guys working on it are factory trained and much better than any rv dealer. Beside, if their is a problem with their work, go to any dealer with a receipt and see if its not under warranty. And the hourly rate is lots less.

The morning temperature is 45 with a forecast of 71. Nice and crisp.

Just look at this loop.

We Moved Today, Show Low, AZ

For you that read our blog and are RV'rs, do you know who this is?

This is our space at the Show Low Lake Campground. We are about 4 miles down AZ260 from US77. The turn is a left at Walmart and about a mile on your right. When you see the lake go past the first entrance and turn right at the sign.

We have elec only with a dump and water at the entrance for $12.00 a day with the Golden Age card. We are in the pines. And the weather is cooler than at Globe. Since we are going to be here till monday, the DTV and DW are setup for our enjoyment.
This view will give you and idea of our route. We went US60/77 at Globe to Show Low, AZ On our route is the terrain you see.

DW took lots of pics of this and I will post them on later posts. Really a sight to see. We gassed up before we left, $2.69.9, and we drove to here and used, by the gauge, 1/4 tank, or 19 gallons. Thats 5.26 mph. It was all up hill and we did alot of 2nd gear and 30 up and down in getting here.

A very good road and lots of passing lanes. We did see a burned rv along the way.

Mileage: 100
GPS: 34*11.488, -110*00.369
DW:127*, -34*, 41*

Its Either Move Today or Not Move

The last pic used to make the panaroma of this stop. The car never made it to here, its "Off To The Future" in the last pic.

Should we stay or should we move? There is not any cheap parking till Holbrook. The casino at Pinetop is a $24.00 a day park. More than I want to pay. We are paying $12.00 a day here.

We have seen what there is to see here. The rest of the sights are over our 50 mile radius. In fact out here the next town can be 75 miles or more away, as in Safford at 72. Even Apache Junction is 55 miles.

Show low is 101 and nearly the next town up US77.

We will be moving in the am. The score here is the casino $15.00, me a goose egg. Be my last casino for a looooooong time. See ya at the next stop. Its getting too warm ere too.

We Are Still Looking For A Place To Move Too

Did you ever what the top of the world looked like? This is it in AZ. Us60 out of Globe and there it is.

We have been having some problems with our King Dome for some time. Today we worked on this for several hours. We had a conversation with tech support last Friday and we were asked to check the voltage at the wires in the unit on the roof. We were looking for a 12-18 volt dc but we found zero. Not good is it. This RV has a manual dish installed with the roof parts removed.

A King Dome was added later for automatic operation. When we added DTV last summer, it worked. And it worked all the way back to Texas. When we moved south last November, it stopped working. and didn't work till we got to San Angelo, see the posting.

I had always used the cable marked "satellite in" for the dome. There is a two way with wires that I finally disassembled and tied the wires back. These wires were unmarked. It turns out one of these wires is from the dome and the other was to the manual dish. I tried the wires purely as a last resort to see what happens.

Now all the wires are marked and tied. Oh, the King Dome works as it should with no problems. Now Shirley has her DTV with the tripod dish, four room lnb, and I have my DTV with the King Dome, single lnb. When te tripod is not set up, she has a two way switch to access the dome. Once we get to where we have park cable, I'll add a second two way to the wiring so we can have that and the DTV dish. Wheee, that makes me tired too.

So far the score is casino $12 and us, or me, zero. I did go to the driving range and work on my fairway woods and 60* wedge. I just cant get the 3 and 5 woods off the ground. The wedge practice came out fine. It will go about 50 yards when hit hard. And will go 3 feet when hit softly. Perfect for my short game.

We have been looking for boondocking up north but no luck yet. There is a place to go to but it has mid 20's at night. Much too cold yet. All the other parks are much higher than here. so we will stay . With the upcoming weekend holiday, we may stay here till next Monday.
All plans are subject to change though.

We Have Not Moved Yet

I walked over to the store and paid for two more days here at the casino park. This is cheaper than those in Globe and so much nicer. We have not decided for sure when to leave and make our way further north. Watching the weather in Holbrook should give us a clue when to move. We will be going into Utah from Holbrook to Monument Valley and then head to Page and on to Zion and Bryce Canyon. The elevations are high enough to get caught in a late winter storm and have snow or ice to deal with. Since there was not a place to stay in Safford, we are about a week ahead of schedule. A week there and then a week here would put us into next week.

Our park fills up during the afternoon and the late arrivals have no place to park. They can park along the side but there is no hookups. So far there has been four leave. There was a $300k Holiday rambler here overnight. And there are a couple of 5k trailers here too. And a yellow "Steelers" class b.

For last month we drove the rv from the RGV to here and that was 1491 miles with $581 in gas. The suv went 1085 miles and $132 in gas with a fill up on saturday. Total spent for rv related items was $2071 not counting the new mattress and chairs. We spent $200 for parking, $131 for sightseeing, $135 on eating out and $235 for groceries.

The casino has six, 6, bussed there with sure losers and a few winners. I would bet the place is packed. We have another buy one get one free buffet coupon we will use. Just got to pick a day to go when they are having food we want. Today is German food day.

Our Day Trip for Saturday

A panaroma of the hills above the downtown. See the car go into the time travel as it passed by.

A look at the town of Globe, AZ. Its built on the hills surrounding the valley below. We had just left the county rv park and it was a nice one. All dirt, not enough room to turn in and for $16.00 a day you get water and elec and long time neighors. For $24.00 a day they add sewer and still the same long time neighors. There were a nice dp and a new gas in there. Walmart looked better.

Now we stopped for gas at the Arco by Walmart, $2.63.9, and saw this at the store. These folks are really down on their luck. Not enough to rent a trailer to haul some stuff. I am surprised the state and local police allowed them to drive on the highway. One good bump and the whole hood support could come off.
One of the several copper plants here. Phelps-Dodge has been here 125 years per their sign. There was more overburden and slag piles than you could imagine. As you can see, there piles were taller than the hills around the town.

We did see this in the historic downtown district. Its an old SP steam engine. It was on display at the park setup bu the town.

There is a place on down US60 that Shirley wanted to see and we did go there but that post will be tomorrow.

We were down yesterday, no internet signal from Dan so we set up ours. It all went right except no system signal. It seems I copied the gps wrong for the W at 32 when it should have been 33. All is corrected now and we are up on our signal.

Its heck to get old and cant sea, red, wite, and all that. But it will happen to you so be prepared. Buy your arm extenders now while they are cheap. When you need them the price will more than double.

DW: 126*, 41*, -35*, 57 with a passing 64.
