More Pics

On our day trip the other day, we drove south to US281 and went sightseeing. We came upon these and have wondered what they are. The are in the fields and have varing tube heights.

The closeup shows what appears to be a valve operator and access ladder. Since we have not seen any irregation but we have seen the water filled canals, our guess is they are irregation valves.

What do you think?

A long shot of a tube close to the houses. Lots of the fields were plowed and lots were not.

This land is flat and has very little ability to drain.

Another pic of the park showing the parking spaces and how close they are not. if you look close you can see our RV. Its under the tower with the red suv. Since this pic was taken, the space next to us has been occupied by a 5th wheel.

There are more pics of our day trip on our pic link. We may take a dozen pics but only post 3-4 here.

There are RV's of all types. From short travel trailers and small 5th wheels to the much more expensive diesel pushers. So far not one of the "million dollar" busses has arrived.

And there is only one other satellite dish here that is visiable. It also is a tripod.

You were right in guessing irrigation valves, Richard. The ranches are assigned specific days and times when they can turn on their water. If they miss their turn one week, they must wait for the next time their number comes up. I was researching a little and discovered that the irrigation systems were put in years ago in order to attract midwestern farmers to come settle the area. The irrigation provided the much needed water for crops to entice settlers to the area to populate the state. There is a pump house museum in San Benito.
