Andrews, TX

Wind power is not cheaper than other sources but its non polluting. As long as we depend on oil, its going to cost alot of money and eventually lives to have. I'm for hydrogen in the short term and nuclear in the long term.

We saw these on the road to Big Spring, TX. We were on US87 north but south of town. We made our way to the town of Andrews for the night.

If you are in the area, stop at Sterling City, TX on US8 north of San Angelo. Park in the city park by the Diary Queen. Its a "U" shaped loop large enough for several rigs. And try the six hole golf course adjacant to the park.

We did stay at the San Angelo State Park "North". Not anything to write home about. Its off US87. The south section is off US67 west of town.

We will be in Andrews, TX two nights so the flu that is at my brothers home is a thing of the past. While we are here I'm going to try out the golf course in the am. Should be fun.

We are physically west of town on 7th street but a block north of the highway and behind the C of C building. More on this with the next post.

Another COLD Night at the Park

We have had another COLD night at 20 here and 24 in Leakey, TX. This is suppose to be the last cold night for 10 days. Tonight is to be mid 30's.

We are moving today, not sure where yet. There is flu where we are going so we must arrive later than this tuesday. We have looked at San Angelo and Del Rio.

Our King Dome is not working so a call to them will be made this morning. They will help us decide where we will go.

This is one of many pics DW made on her walk yesterday. This is the hill country but this is the edge of the desert too. It has been very dry here. Our next post will be from somewhere so stay tuned for that update. BURRRR this morning.

Last Day at the park

The Frio River behind our space. The river is 50 feet lower than we are.

The two views of our parking space. We had to raise the tires 3" to get above the wheel stop. Where the wheels are is lower than the front of the RV. Our gas tank is real close to the stop if we backed up to it. The space is long enough for our 36 feet. This and many other spaces need some car to get them back to level.

Its a shame the state doesn't take better care of this park and the others we have been too, execept for Golaid. The rates are nearly commerical. These are not commerical parks. Not only without sewer connections but all the other "stuff" offered by the commerical parks. And the $6.00 entry fee PER PERSON is simply much too high. There are over 500 spaces here, tent, shelter and rv, and this weekend the occupancy is under 30. Day use and entry rates are too high. The commerical park across the river is very full.

BURRRRRRR. Our window temp is 22 this morning. The weatherbug for Leaky, up the road about 8 miles, is 28 for the low. Still 28 is a burrrr.

After some discussion, its on to San Angelo tomorrow, actually Sterling City, Then tuesday its on to Hobbs. Tonight is to be the last of the below 40 temps for the next week. Hopefully we can be in Deming, NM next friday so Shirley can rock hunt at the park.

We are at Garner State Park

Its been a long day. We drove from the park in Mercedes to here 343 miles on US83 with an overnight stop in Laredo at the state park there. We have pics which we will post tomorrow. Having not driven the RV in 3 months, it was an experience. Its not like our SUV.

We were coming back from Uvalde, TX and we saw these "critters" in the park. There must be 20-30 of them. So far this is all we have seen. Its turned rather cold in the mid 50's here. Tonight its to be low 30's. We haven't seen this cool in weeks. Rather good sleeping tonight. I had hoped to play golf here but its to cold for me. I did find my Maxfli " Noodle" golf balls here.

Today is Travel Day

Updating our travels. This is the state park in Laredo, TX. We left the RGV around 9 am and filled up on gas, $65.00. We drove to Laredo, TX for our first stop.

The forecast was for a nice day. It turned out to be nice except for the wind. It blew and we drove into a head wind or side wind. Our proposed route was about 150 miles over US83, a two lane road. All of the gas and some was spent on this part of the trip.

We left Laredo Thursday am and headed to Uvalde, TX and on to Garner State Park.

We got gas some time and distance north of Laredo. As I recall, we gassed up in Carrizo Springs, TX, about 30 miles south of Uvalde. Gas was $2.39.9. We filled up for $134.00.

Will be a nice day after all. The wind has been taken out of the forecast and it should be cloudy most of our travel this morning. We will post again on Friday from Garner State Park. We will spend the weekend there and move again on Monday.

Its ALL Done

We got up around 7:15 am had breakfast and started. I had gotten the hose out the day before and it was ready. Out came the bucket and the car wash liquid and the brush. I dragged all this up on the roof and began the chore of washing the roof. I started at the front and made my way back a brush stroke at a time.

Shirley began the inside chore of washing, sweeping, wiping and disinfecting. We don't do this kind of deep cleaning often but usually when we move. She sometimes takes the carpet cleaner and does some carpet cleaning. The wood kitchen floor is cleaned and waxed, the dusty wood work is wiped clean, the table and counter top is cleaned and for a moment sterile. The bathroom is cleaned and for a moment it too is sterile.

The carpet is vacuumed and where it is, the mushrooms are removed. Yes, mushrooms. The moisture on, in the carpet will grow mushrooms. We have a spot by the passenger seat and the table by the recliner behind the passenger seat. Shirley said there was mold on the drivers door. She has found mold in the bedroom before. We don't have a leak from outside. We do have lots of moisture inside. Our space is so small that the shower moisture, cooking moisture and that moisture that comes in the vents, windows stays in. She wiped, washed, vacuumed, swept and cleaned the inside. No small job!

While she was working inside, I washed the outside of the motorhome. And the suv got washed too. Then it was time to do the windows. Out came the window cleaner and we began. Before you know it, some 4 hours later, its all done. We both were exhusted from all the work.

Its a tuesday and this evening I will go and play my last pool games with the guys I've meet here. Infact one of them lives next to us in his rv. Charlie and his friend Marvin are probably the best in the area. Marv is in a 9 ball tournment this morning and I will see how he did this evening. The play 8 ball per the BCA rules and running a table is rather difficult. But these two guys do it. I did play one time before with them and on my break, I got to run the table on Charlie. I think all of them were surprised.

Tomorrow is my last golf day. I will play 18 holes and spend some 4.5 hours of doing something I enjoy. My golfing will cease till a later day. I will try to play in Uvalde and in Hobbs. After that, when ever.

Thursday morning we pull out of here, get gas somewhere down the road. We have just over a half a tank or about 40 gallons. Our stop for that day is Laredo and the state park there.

We will have to do some work and still get in some play time. There is golf for Monday and Wednesday for sure. The weather appears to be helping. Then its work on Tuesday. We have to wash but will need to get the tires checked before the water gets everywhere. We have half a tank of gas and the gas prices are going up. We went for a late lunch yesterday and the gas prices are at $2.19.9 from $208.9. Seems to happen every time we move.

A last look at the golf course. This is #5 and the second shot. And notice how green the fairway is. That's why its a cow pasture, no grass and what there is is brown. The dirt is dry from no watering. Yep they do have a sprinkler system but either don't use it or done know how to use it. It could also be a why spend the money as they will come anyway.















We should be in Lovington on Wednesday. If the weather is descent, golf at the state park in Hobbs. After that its travel time and the next stop is Deming, NM for a couple of days to rock hunt.

Our plans are to make our way through eastern AZ to Page, AZ on our way to the national parks in UT. I hope July finds us in Yellowstone. We will boondock as much as we can to help our budget catchup and pay for some of the gas we will be burning. This is going to be a possible 7000 mile summer by the time we get back.
